Selected collector's items from Germany:

VERBANDSGEMEINDE WITTLICH-LAND

State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Bernkastel-Wittlich (until 1969 Wittlich)
Additions : 2014 Verbandsgemeinde Manderscheid

Wappen von Verbandsgemeinde Wittlich-Land

Official blazon

  • (2016) Geviert, 1: in Silber rotes Balkenkreuz, belegt mit einer silbernen Lilie, 2: in Rot zwei goldene ineinander verschlungene Ringe übereinander, 3: in Rot silbernes sechsspeichiges Rad, 4: in Gold roter Zickzackbalken, Schildbord 14-fach schwarz-silbern gestückt.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 8, 2016.

The red cross refers to the State of Trier, to which part of the area historically belonged. The lily is the symbol of St. Mary and refer to the Maria devotion in the village of Klausen. The two rings are taken from the arms of the Himmerod Abbey in the area.

The wheel refers to the travelling salesmen typical for the Binsfeld/Landscheid region. The fourth quarter shows the arms of the Counts of Manderscheid.

The bordure is a typical element for a Verbandsgemeinde, the colours refer to the coulours of Prussia, to which the area belonged since the 19th century.

The arms thus combine elements from the previous arms (see below) with the addition of a fourth quarter from the Verbandsgemeinde Manderscheid.

The previous arms:

The cross, fleur-de-lys, wheel and bordure are the same as described above. The two keys refer to the Himmerod Abbey and other religious institutions in the area.
