Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 2, 1996.

The grenades refer to the local battle on August 21, 1808 between the Anglo-Portuguese troops and the French. The rose symbolise the stay of Queen Isabel in the village. A rose was chosen as her symbol for het goodness.

The fleur-de-lys are a French symbol, and indicate that the village was founded by Frankish settlers.
