Origin/meaning
The arms are taken from the arms of the St. Peter abbey in the Black Forest. The keys are the symbol of St. Peter. The abbey had large possessions in the area, see also Huttwil. The arms are used as arms of the city since the 14th century, and are also used by the district of Wangen. A single key is used in the neighbouring villages of Walliswil and Wangenried.
