ZR.MS. VAN AMSTEL, NETHERLANDS NAVY

History: The name was in the form Jan van Amstel used by a Minehunter in Service 1936-1942. The Van Amstel name as been used by two Frigates the first in Service 1950-1967 and the second in Service since 1993.

In goud vier dwarsbalken van sabel met een zilver en keel geschakeerd St.Andrieskruis van twee rijen over alles heen.


Origin/meaning

Shown is the Personal Arms of Jan van Amstel (c.1620-1669), a Captain of the Amsterdam Admirality. He took part in serveral successful expeditions and battles. The badge was approved 13 January 1953.
