DIOCESE OF CORPUS CHRISTI (Dioecesis Corporis Christi)

Country : United States
Denomination : Roman Catholic

Established : 1874 as Apostolic Vicariate of Brownsville
Elevated to Diocese of Corpus Christi in 1912

Arms (crest) of Diocese of Corpus Christi

Official blazon

Gules, three ciboria or.

Origin/meaning

The arms are canting (a ciborium is a covered cup for holding hosts (from the Christian eucharist), which symbolises the body of Christ). The colors red and gold are not explained, but could be seen as the Spanish, because of the former Spanish influence, or as gold for the ciboria and red for the Blood of Christ.
