The arms are derived from the arms of the Rotselaar family and the oldest known use is by Gerard van Rotselaar, on a seal dating from 1272. The seals of the council of Rotselaar are known since the 14<sup>th</sup> century and have always shown three fleur-de-lis. The arms are also used by [[Haacht]], which was another possession of the family.
