The arms show miner's tools as a symbol for the former silver mining near the town. The town, then named Silberberg in German (the Czech name means the same: silver mountain), was already mentioned as a town in 1520. Probably at the same time a seal was made, but there is no proof of that. The town arms shown above only appear in the early 19th century.
 
Older arms are mentioned, showing St. John, but there are no images known of these.
