Brühl received city rights in 1285 by the Bishop of Köln. The oldest seal dates from the early 14<sup>th</sup> century and show the arms of the [[Köln (State)|State of Köln]], with St. Peter, holding two keys and a bible as supporter. The heads were added in 1605 and stand for the 7 members of the local council.
