The municipality was part of Sasbach until the early 19<sup>th</sup> century. The oldest seal thus dates from the early 19<sup>th</sup> century and shows the letters SW under a crown. When in 1904 the municipality wanted its own arms, the State Archives proposed arms with a silver mountain, on which a pine tree grew; around the trunk of the tree a golden crown.
