Arms of Vlaanderen
The arms in the Wapen- en Vlaggenboek van Gerrit Hesman (1708)
The province of Oost-Vlaanderen was created in 1813 and received the first arms on August 10, 1816.
The arms show the lion of Vlaanderen with a chief, showing the Dutch National arms. After the Belgian independence in 1830 the chief was removed.
The arms were widely used, but never officially granted. The arms were generally used with the crown of a Count. Only in 1997 the arms were granted, now with as supporters the lion of Vlaanderen.
