History: Raised in 1793 as the 83rd Foot and as General Cuyler's Shropshire Volunteers (in 1794 86th, or Shropshire Volunteers). In 1881 these two Regiments become 1st and 2nd Battalions of the Royal Irish Rifles. Redesignated in 1922 the Royal Ulster Rifles. In 1968 amalgamated with the [[Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, British Army]] and [[The Royal Irish Fusiliers (Princess Victoria's), British Army]] to form [[The Royal Irish Rangers (27th (Inniskilling), 83rd and 87th), British Army]].
