The arms are identical to the arms of the Van Hoobrouck, Lords of Zingem and Asper from 1669 until 1789. The arms also appear on the seal of the local council, dating from the 18<sup>th</sup> century. On the seal the arms are shown with a baronal crown, as the Van Hoobrouck family at th etime were Barons of Asper. The crown was removed when the municipality was granted arms in 1817.
