From the Arms of Sir John Hawkins (1532-1595) knigthed for helping disperse the Armada in 1588. The Year 1916 was included as part of a shortlived idea to include the launch date of the First of Name. It was abandoned in 1920. The Badge was approved on 5 May 1919.
