The eight five pointed golden stars in the formation of the Constellation Great Bear or The big dipper. The two stars that form the front edge of the dipper point to the North Star, of extreme importance to all travellers, explorers, hunters, and outdoor men and women who use the stars for navigation. The constellation is taken from the state flag of Alaska.

The silver crescent honours our Blessed Mother, titular of the cathedral in Juneau, in her title of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Issuant from the base of the design is a field of blue and silver wavy bars, to represent the many waters which are such a significant part of the life in the diocese of Juneau.
