State : Steiermark
District : Judenburg

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 8, 1989.

The earliest colonists came in the 10th century. They were Baiern (predecessor of today's Bavaria). So, the arms employ the Bavarian tinctures. Maria Buch is a place of pilgrimages. Buch originally meant "in the beeches". Buch can also mean "book". The fleur-de-lis represents Our Lady. The flanks embattled are a symbol for the many small Wehrhöfe (fortified homesteads and small manors), which existed in the Middle Ages.
