Origin/meaning
These arms are not officially granted, but widely used.
The city of Reus has a medieval origin: it was born in the 12th century, in the repopulation of the lands conquered to the Muslims. Reus was given its municipal charter around 1180. Since the 14th century, the rose has been the heraldic sign of the city, probably a canting sign. Later the keys of St. Peter (the local patron saint) were added to the arms, and in the 17th century the tiara (also referred to St. Peter, the first Pope) was also added.
