The arms reflects the establishment and name of the town. In 1737 the first homestead is mentioned in local woods: a family of tar-maker and charcoal-burner Kazla, hence a Lithuanian surname (modern form Kazlas), originating from Polish "koziol" (meaning "goat"). His 6 sons increased the new business: they started exploiting the local swamp ore and became good smiths. Therefore the settlement got name Kazlu Ruda (literally "Kazlas' Ore", meaning "Kazlas' Foundry"). | |||
