Scarlet and white are the colors used for the Corps of Engineers.  The 45° triangle and the pair of dividers are basic instruments in the making of maps.


The coat of arms was originally approved for the 30th Engineer Battalion (Topographic) on 1 May 1940.  It was rescinded/cancelled on 29 July 1960.  The insignia was reinstated and authorized for the 30th Engineer Battalion on 7 December 1973.
