Blue is a color traditionally associated with Infantry, the original branch of the organization. The gold chief displays the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 87th Division.
 
The Coat of Arms and distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 347th Infantry Regiment, Organized Reserves, on 16 April 1925. IThey was redesignated for the 347th Regiment with symbolism revised on 8 April 1993.
