'''New Coat of arms for the Netherlands.''' | '''New Coat of arms for the Netherlands.'''<br> | ||
Based on a long political discussion, whether or not to keep the National arms of the Netherlands based on the arms of the Royal family, a decision has been made and a new law has been passed in Parliament. In this law it is stated that the arms would change to the arms of the Dutch Republic in the 17th century. The lion, arrows and sword remain, but the blue field and golden billets from the family arms have been replaced by a red shield. The Dutch Hoge Raad van Adel is now asked to provide a new (modern) design of the arms, to be introduced by January 1, 2016 on all government institutions. The image below is how the arms might look like. | Based on a long political discussion, whether or not to keep the National arms of the Netherlands based on the arms of the Royal family, a decision has been made and a new law has been passed in Parliament.
