MARK ANTHONY ECKMAN

Born : February 9, 1959
Deceased :

Auxiliary bishop of Pittsburgh, 2021-present; Titular Bishop of Sitifis

Arms (crest) of Mark Anthony Eckman

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The checked blue and silver horizontal bar is derived from the Diocese of Pittsburgh's arms. The seven-pointed silver star honors the Blessed Mother, to whose protection Bishop-elect Eckman entrusts his new pastoral service. The lion or St. Mark points to Bishop-elect Eckman's first name.

The background color or the shield is red, the color or love, charity and blood. It symbolizes the infinite love of God the Father, who sent His Son to shed His blood for us, for our salvation.

The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of bishop. The five red stones on the cross represent the five wounds that Jesus received during the crucifixion.
