Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 18, 1991.

The upper part with the eheat and corn symbolisesthe agricultural character of the parish. The base shows a fountain as a canting element, the name means Holy Water.

The Maltese cross refers to the struggle against the Moors and the Monastery of Santa Maria de Aguas Santas. The eagle refers to Gonçalo Mendes, alocal hero and signifies strength.
