Official blazon

Shield: Or, a saltire Gules (Scarlet), an escutcheon per aple Argent and Gules, a surveyor's plumb bob Azure detailed of the third within the open end of a spade iron counterchanged.
Crest: That for regiments and separate battalions of the Alabama Army National Guard: From a wreath Or and Gules, a slip of cotton plant with full bursting boll, Proper.
Motto: We Can Adapt.

Distinctive Unit Insignia, Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a blue perpendicular surveyor's plumb bob within the open end of a white spade iron in front of ared saltire all within a continuos gold scroll, the area at top surmounted by the upper ends of the saltire. Inscribed within the gold scroll are the words "WE CAN ADAPT" in red.

Origin/meaning

The Surveyor's plumb bob and spade iron symbolises the former role as a Engineer Unit. The Saltire alludes to the Alabama State Flag.

The arms were approved for the 145th Engineer Battalion on 24 December 1997. It was redesignated for the 145th chemical Battalion on 30 September 2002. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved for the 145th Engineer Battalion on 2 October 1970. It was redesignated for the 440th Ordnance Battalion on 26 October 1984, and again for the 145th Engineer Battalion on 24 December 1997. It was redesignated for the 145th Chemical Battalion on 20 September 2002.
