Distinctive Unit Insignia Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure (Ultramarine Blue) a cross throughout Or surmounted of another Gules (Maroon) overall a hurt edged of the second charged with a griffin segreant o0f the like holding in its claws a mullet of six points Vert edged Or; issuing from dexter and sinister chief two lightning flashes pilewise of the last. Attached below and to each side a tripartite Celeste Blue motto scroll inscribed "COPIAE VALETUDO TUTELA" in Gold letters.
Origin/meaning
Ultramarien Bluw represents the Great Lakes Region and the State of Michigan, which is symbolised again by the Griffin, recalling the French origins of the Area. The Star denote the many types of mission taskings undertaken by the Battalion, the first Muntifunctional Medical Battalion of the US Army. The lightning flashes refer to the Early Entry Element of the Battalion and also the speedy response to mission requirements.
The Coat of Arms and Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 18 May 2006.
