Distinctive Unit Insignia, Description: A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inched (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of a Shield:
blazoned: Per bend Argent and Tenné. Attached below the shield a Silver scroll inscribed "IN MEDIAS RES" in black letters.
Origin/meaning
The Shield is in the colours of the Signal Corps. The Fleur-de-lis symbolizes the six European Campaigns. The Torch and Arrowhead symbolizes participation in Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa in 1942.
The arms were approved for the 59th Signal Battalion on 14 March 1932. It was redesignated for the 1st Armored Signal Battalion on 7 May 1942. It was again redesignated for the 1st Signal Battalion on 5 February 1962. The arms were amended to adda crest on 24 July 1973. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved for the 59th Signal Battalion on 9 April 1932. It was redesignated for the 1st Armored Signal Battalion on 7 May 1942. The insignia was redesignated for the 1st Signal Battalion on 5 February 1962.
