359TH COMBAT SUPPORT HOSPITAL, US ARMY

Coat of arms (crest) of the 359th Combat Support Hospital, US Army

Official blazon

A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a maroon cross with a silver border between an arced maroon scroll at top inscribed “QUANTUM” and an arced maroon scroll at bottom inscribed “SUFFICIT” all in silver letters, and overall two diagonally crossed lightning flashes surmounted by a silver rod entwined by a green serpent.

Origin/meaning

Maroon and white (silver) are the colors traditionally associated with the Medical Corps. The cross and the rod of Aesculapius are symbolic of the Hospital’s medical mission. The crossed lightning bolts represent teamwork and rapid deployment capabilities, and the motto, “QUANTUM SUFFICIT” translates “A Sufficient Quantity.” The crosses, one upon the other, underscore the two components (Hospital Unit Base and Hospital Unit Surgical) of the 359th Combat Support Hospital.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 9 February 1994. Literature: Image and Information from The Institute of Heraldry, US Army.
