The Cross is taken from the arms of Rome, Capital of Italy and symbolises service in that Country during World War II.

The Coat of Arms and Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved for the 747th Ordnance Battalion on 24 February 1955. They was redesignated for the 747th Maintenance Battlion on 11 October 1963 and for the 434th Support Battalion on 1 March 1995.
