Official blazon

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: On a hexagon shield-shaped embroidered device 3 1/16 inches (7.78 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width overall, blazoned: Vert, a double warded key bendwise wards to chief, the handle displaying a hexagon void of the field and charged with a bend, double cottised Or, all within a bordure of the last.

Distinctive Unit Insignia. Description: On a Gold color metal and enamel device with an attached second piece in Silver 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall, blazoned: Vert, on a bend between a griffin’s head erased and a sword bendwise point to chief Or, a double warded key wards to chief Argent, affixed to sides and base a tri-folded Green scroll inscribed “SECURING FREEDOM WORLDWIDE” in Gold letters.

Origin/meaning

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Green and yellow are the branch colors associated with the Military Police Corps. The key is a symbol of providing security and the double wards are in the shape of the roman numerals four and six and represent the unit’s numerical designation. The double cottise contains four diagonal lines and combined with the six sided hexagonal shape refer to the unit’s numerical designation of forty-six.

Distinctive Unit Insignia: Green and yellow are the branch colors associated with the Military Police Corps. The key is a symbol of providing security and the double wards are in the shape of the roman numerals four and six to represent the unit’s numerical designation, the handle of the key imitates the hexagonal shape of the unit’s shoulder sleeve insignia. The griffin’s head represents supervision, vigilance, and readiness, while the sword stands for strength and combat power. The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 21 November 2006.
