90TH FIGHTER SQUADRON, US AIR FORCE

History: Organized as 90 Aero Squadron on 20 August 1917. Redesignated as: 90 Squadron (Surveillance) on 13 August 1919; 90 Squadron (Attack) on 15 September 1921; 90 Attack Squadron on 25 January 1923; 90 Bombardment Squadron (Light) on 15 September 1939; 90 Bombardment Squadron (Dive) on 28 September 1942; 90 Bombardment Squadron (Light) on 25 May 1943; 90 Bombardment Squadron, Light, on 29 April 1944. Inactivated on 1 October 1949. Redesignated as 90 Bombardment Squadron, Light, Night Intruder, on 7 June 1951. Activated on 25 June 1951. Redesignated as: 90 Bombardment Squadron, Tactical, on 1 October 1955; 90 Tactical Fighter Squadron on 8 June 1964; 90 Attack Squadron on 12 December 1969; 90 Special Operations Squadron on 31 October 1970; 90 Tactical Fighter Squadron on 8 July 1973; 90 Fighter Squadron on 26 September 1991. Combat as corps observation unit with American I, III, and IV Army Corps, and French XVII Army Corps, 16 June-10 November 1918. Mexican border patrol, September 1919-June 1921 and April 1929. Antisubmarine, east coast of US, December 1941-January 1942; combat in Southwest and Western Pacific, April 1942-12 August 1945. Combat in Korea, 25 June 1951-27 July 1953. Combat in Southeast Asia, February 1966-December 1972. Not manned and non-operational December 1972-August 1973. Air defense of the Philippines, September 1973-May 1991. Air defense of Alaska, May 1991-. Since 1994, prepared for rapid worldwide deployment of fighter aircraft to accomplish precision engagement of surface targets using a wide variety of conventional air-to-air munitions. Conducted air superiority missions with F-22 Raptor aircraft, 2007-.
