APOLDA (APD)

State : Thüringen
Incorporated into: 1994 Weimarer Land

Wappen von Apolda (kreis)/Arms (crest) of Apolda (kreis)
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on April 26, 1991.

The first quarter shows the arms of the Counts of Orlamünde, as part of the Orlamünde county is part of the district. The second quarter shows the cross of the Teutonic Order in reversed colours, symbolising the possessions of the Order in Liebstedt in the district.

The third quarter shows the arms of the Kapellendorf Estate, which is now part of the district. The apple in the fourth quarter is a canting symbol for Apolda and has been used in different arms of the city during the centuries. As the arms of Kapellendorf were of higher importance in the history of the district, the colours of the second quarter were reversed to get a more balanced shield.
