Origin/meaning
The crown is stylized to the crown from the coat of arms of Tomislavgrad, and refers to the coronation of King Tomislav. This brings together the image of the earthly kingdom, as well as the early history of the Croatian people and the place where Bishop Rados was born. The birthplace of the bishop is Crvenice ('red'), which makes the importance of red even more prominent. The connection with Varaždin lies in the fact that Varaždin is also a 'royal city', an important center and seat in preserving the survival of Croatian statehood during the Turkish conquests, and briefly the capital of Croatia in the 18th century.
The Maria monogramme in blue refers to St. Mary and refers to the titles of two churches: the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Varaždin and the Bishop's birth parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Seonica.
The lower half points to the landscape and geographical determinant of the beauty of parts of the Varazdin Diocese, in the highlands of Ivanščica and Kalnik Mountains, in the hills and hills of Međimurje and Zagorje, in the Plains of Podravina, in the natural beauty of lakes, streams and rivers, at what is most important and important for life is Mura and Drava.
The cross of Christ linked and reconciled heaven and earth, divine and human. After suffering and death, the Cross was raised as a celebration and shone as a sign of the victory of the Risen One. In the coat of arms it is a link and a conciliation, but also as an openness to a new horizon. An eight-pointed cross was taken to represent the coat of arms associated with the knightly orders. The symbolism of the eight peaks reads easily the richness of the symbolism of the number eight in the Bible, which regularly marks transfiguration, life beyond the categories of transience, the newness that we share in Christ's presence among us and in us.
