Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 9, 1945.

The arms show the local medieval bridge over the Rio Sella that runs through the town. The cross and crescent refer to the famous battle at Covadonga in the municipality, in which the Christian Don Pelayo destroyed a Moorish army.
