Origin/meaning

These are the arms of the local priory of St. Peter (keys) and St. Paul (sword), founded in 1070 by Thibaut I, count of Champagne. From the twelfth century the priory is at the head of a vast estate in the Tardenois. At the end of the Hundred Years War, the monks are authorized by King Charles VII to strengthen their priory and prosperity returns in the middle of the sixteenth century.
