Wappen von Eutin

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

Eutin received city rights in 1257 from Johann von Diest, Bishop of Lübeck. The oldest known seal dates from the late 13th century and is known since 1337. The seal already shows the same composition as in the present arms.

The cross is derived from the arms of the State of Lübeck, the letters VTIN stand for Eutin. The rose and fleur-de-lis were common medieval symbols for justice.
