Origin/meaning

The divided field shows the three crosses of the city of Breda and the pales of the former Diocese of Middelburg, which baceame later also part of the Diocese of Breda. The cross is the symbol of Christianity and the design is based on the iron decoration-crosses on wooden gates, which strongly connected the different pieces of wood. It is thus meant as a symbol of strength.
