Origin/meaning
The city of Gernsheim was a possession of the State of Mainz from 1232-1802 and acquired city rights in 1356. The oldest, 14th century seal, showed already the wheel of the State of Mainz. All later seals and images have shown the wheel, which officially was granted as arms in 1925.
