Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 10, 1978 (UK grant) and registered on March 3, 1999 (Canadian register).

Goderich is a town on Lake Huron , which is symbolised by the waves as well as by the sails on the crown. The crest shows the red dragon of Wales, as in Goderich many people have Welsh ancestry. The roses and thistles on the compartment represent the English and Scottish settlers in the area.
