Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 4, 1818 and were confirmed on September 7, 1928.

The arms show a beehive and a lion, probably allegoric symbols for the labour and the watchfulness of the population. The arms had no historical significance. The only known seal of the village dates from the late 18th century and shows the arms of the Boelare family, who ruled the village and estate since the 17th century.

The colours are the Dutch national colours, as in 1813 the mayor applied without indicating the colours. The arms were thus granted in the national colours. When the arms were confirmed after the Belgian independence, the colours were not changed.
