Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 14, 2005.

The green and golden colours symbolise the moorlands (green) and the sandy areas of the municipality. The colours also refer to the (former) Amt Kirchspielslandgemeinde Hennstedt, of which the municipality was the capital.

The golden part is shown as a small hill, which is a canting element, Hennstedt means 'high place'. The silver bar in the chief symbolises the Eider river. The lower half shows two willow branches, a typical tree in the region. The many leaves symbolise the active community life in the municipality. The wheel symbolises the fact that most inhabitants work elsewhere and at the same time it is a symbol for the former handicrafts practised in the village. The eight spokes indicate the eight settlements in the municipality.
