Origin/meaning

Ilshofen received city rights in 1330 from the Lords of Hohenlohe. The oldest seal dates from the 14th century and shows St. Lawrence, the patron saint of the city. After the reformation in the early 16th century the saint was replaced by the image of Justice in the seals. The figure of Justice also appears as city arms in 1594 and has not changed since.

The colours and arms were officially determined and granted in 1954.
