KIPPENS

Province : Newfoundland and Labrador

Arms (crest) of Kippens
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The side of the shield consists of two halved evergreen trees as found everywhere in Kippens. At the base, three rhythmical waves symbolise the landforms, fields and open spaces, and the various bodies of water surrounding the town. In the upper portion of the shield, three bands, denoting completeness, echo the waves and symbolise sunshine (yellow), the sky (blue-green), and sunsets (red) respectively.

The centre of the shield contains a cluster of red shapes representing houses and showing the predominant residential character of Kippens with a wide array of family homes - each with its own identity and features. Underneath this central symbol, a white band depicts Kippens Road (Route 460) which is the lifeline of our community. In close proximity, a bridge signifies the linkage to our neighbours east and west.

Left and right of center, behind the red `residential' shapes, are two rather prominent white structures. The left one represents the characteristic mountain panorama of Kippens which is most impressive when snow-covered while the other shows the limestone cliffs above Romaine's River.
