MAMER
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on October 12, 1979.
The lower part of the arms shows a Roman temple, which symbolises the fact that already during the Roman times a village existed on the spot of the present village. Rhe colour of the lower part is taken from the main colour of the arms of the Lords of Mersch, who owned the village for many centuries.
The wheel is taken from the arms of the Mameranus family, who were a famous humanist family in Luxembourg. The colours are opposite to the arms of the family.
The two hooks are taken from the arms of the Mamer family, a noble family which originated in the village.
