Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 20, 1959.

The silver wavy bar refers to the Tamanduateí River, which starts in Mauá. The cogwheel refers to the local industry and the steam locomotive symbolizes the Baron of Maua, a pioneer of railway roads in the province.

The two pillars beside the shield symbolise the old Chapel of Our Lady of Pilar, and are thus canting. The dates on the banner are the inauguration of the railway station in 1883 and the date the village received municipal status in 1954.
