Wapen van Meeuwen-Gruitrode/Coat of arms (crest) of Meeuwen-Gruitrode

Official blazon

Gedwarsbalkt van tien stukken van goud en van keel, met een smalle schuinbalk van lazuur over alles heen, vergezeld boven van de hoofdletter M en beneden van de hoofdletter G, beide van zilver.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 20, 1989

The arms are based on the arms of Gruitrode, with the addition of a blue bend and the letter M. Both Gruitrode and Meeuwen historically belonged to the Loon County. Gruitrode used as arms a silver letter G on the Loon arms. Meeuwen did not have its own arms, but historically used a seal with the Loon arms and a blue bend. This seal is known from the 15th century.

These two designs were thus combined and for symmetry a letter M was added in chief.
