The Shield bears the Arms of the Province of Savoie (France) and Savoia (Italy), whose name in Spanish is Saboya. The Regiment hade its origins as Tercio de Saboya raised in 1537.
The Battalion uses the arms of the Infantry Regiment Guipúzcoa No 53 which was dissolved in 1931. Which in turn was the Coat of Arms of the namegiving Province. The present Coat of Arms was approved on 7 February 2008.
