NO 5 SQUADRON, RNZAF
History: Raised at Fiji Islands November 1941 as a Maritime Reconnaissance Squadron which has been the role of the Squadron ever since. During World War II it operated in the Pacific. Post War it flew operations from Fiji until relocating for the first time to New Zealand and the base at Whenuapai, Auckland, which still is the Squadron's Base. From 2003-2015 the Squadron operated a Detachement on rotational basis in the Middle East.

Origin/meaning
The Albatross over the Blue Roundel symbolises the Maritime Role of the Squadron. The Motto is in Fijian: Keitou Kalawaca Na Wasaliwa = We span the Ocean, again alluding to the role and the Roots in the Fiji Islands.
