Official English blazon

Gules, a bezant pierced round surrounded by an annulet or en soleil.

Other language blazon

Origin/meaning

The shield is a family shield for the Aguilar-Hanssen family and the colours are red and gold because these are the main colours of the armigers’ home towns Santo Domingo and Heredia, Costa Rica, and Cleves, Germany. They are also the colours of Hordaland, Norway, where the family lives, the colours of Aguilar, and Limburg where the father can trace their family back to. Red and gold also represent the main motifs in the family’s life to love and give. The sun (en soleil) represents the sun and warmth of the wife’s home country Costa Rica, and the rings depict 4 of the 5 main interior layers of the Earth because the father is a geophysicist: the hole in the bezant is the inner core (20% diameter/thickness), the remaining bezant gold is the outer core (35%), the following red space represent the lower mantle (35%) and the narrow annulet (10%) depicts the upper mantle (the crust is too thin to be depicted).
