Origin/meaning

The arms of the bishop shows the insignia of the Society of Mary. It reflects the spirituality of the Order - Christ comes to us through Mary; Mary forms Christ and continues to do so today. The wheat refers to the prairie roots of the bishop. The wheat is also a reflection of the image of the grain of wheat that must fall in the ground and die to bring forth new life. It also symbolizes the Bread of Life, the Eucharist.

The motto Fortes in Fide (Steadfast in Faith) is said of those whose life is deeply rooted in the person of Jesus Christ.

The arms of the bishop are impaled with the arms of the diocese of Victoria and the Archdiocese of Vancouver respectively.
