REINACH

Canton : Basel-Landschaft

Wappen von Reinach (Basel-Landschaft)/Arms (crest) of Reinach (Basel-Landschaft)

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The first arms as used by the municipality were designed in 1939.

These arms showed a crosier with three balls placed on the lower part of the crosier. The crosier is the symbol of the Bishops of Basel who owned the village for many centuries. The three balls are the symbol of St. Nicholad, patron saint of the village.

In 1949 the arms were changed and the new arms showed the same symbols, but now in two different fields. The colour of the right half with crosier are those of the diocese of Basel, the left half with the balls are those of the former Amt Birseck of the State of Basel, to which the village belonged.
