ROTTHAUSEN
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Gelsenkirchen
Incorporated into : 1924 Gelsenkirchen
German | In von gold und rot gespaltenem Schild, farbenwechselnd, über einer Pflugschar ein Fachwerkhaus, oben rechts und links begleitet von einem Andreaskreuz. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were designed for the district of Gelsenkirchen, the municipality (pre 1924) never had arms.
The arms are partially canting, Rotthausen is derived from roden (clearing forest, hence the spade) and hausen (house), or rot (red) and house, hence the red colour of the house, to cover both explanations.
The two crosses refer to the two former places of gathering in the village in Germanic times.
